Neurofeedback

A non-invasive, drug-free approach that helps train your brain toward calmer, more regulated patterns of activity — supporting attention, emotional regulation, sleep, and overall wellbeing.

What is Neurofeedback?

Neurofeedback, also known as EEG biofeedback, is a form of brain training. Small sensors are placed on the scalp to measure your brain's electrical activity (EEG) in real time. That activity is fed back to you on a screen — often as a game, animation, or movie that responds to your brainwaves. When your brain moves toward calmer, more efficient patterns, the feedback rewards it; over repeated sessions, the brain gradually learns to sustain those healthier patterns on its own.

The process is completely non-invasive: nothing goes into your brain, and there is no electrical stimulation. The sensors simply listen. Sessions are comfortable, and many clients — including children — find them enjoyable and relaxing.

Who Can Neurofeedback Help?

Neurofeedback is used to support a wide range of concerns in children, adolescents, and adults, including:

Neurofeedback can be used on its own or, more commonly, alongside psychological therapy — the two approaches complement each other well. During your initial consultation, your clinician will discuss whether neurofeedback is a good fit for your goals.

How It Works

Non-Invasive

Sensors only measure your brain activity — nothing is put into your brain and there is no stimulation.

Drug-Free

A training-based approach that can complement, and in some cases reduce reliance on, other treatments.

All Ages

Suitable for children, adolescents, and adults. Sessions are engaging and child-friendly.

Works With Therapy

Neurofeedback pairs well with evidence-based psychological therapy for deeper, lasting change.

Fees & Funding

Neurofeedback sessions start from $272. Your total program cost depends on the assessment and training plan recommended for you. Please contact our reception team on 07 5573 2200 or reception@moodandmindcentre.com for package options, and to discuss whether any rebates (such as NDIS or private health) may apply to your situation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is neurofeedback safe?

Yes. Neurofeedback is non-invasive — the sensors only measure brain activity, they do not put anything into the brain. Some people notice mild, short-lived tiredness after early sessions as the brain adjusts, similar to how muscles feel after exercise. Your clinician monitors your response closely and adjusts the training accordingly.

How many sessions will I need?

Neurofeedback is a learning process, so results build gradually over repeated sessions. Many people begin noticing changes within the first 10 sessions, with a typical course ranging from 20 to 40 sessions depending on your goals and presentation. Your clinician will give you a clearer estimate after your initial assessment and review progress with you regularly.

Does neurofeedback replace therapy or medication?

Not necessarily. Neurofeedback is best thought of as a complement to — not a replacement for — evidence-based psychological therapy and any treatment prescribed by your doctor. Never change or stop medication without consulting your prescribing doctor. For many clients, combining neurofeedback with therapy produces the strongest results.

Is neurofeedback suitable for children?

Yes. Neurofeedback is widely used with children and adolescents, particularly for attention, emotional regulation, and behavioural concerns. The feedback is delivered through games and movies, so most children find sessions engaging and fun. Parents are welcome to be involved throughout.

What does a session feel like?

Relaxing, for most people. You sit comfortably while watching a screen or listening to audio that responds to your brain activity. There is nothing you need to consciously "do" — the learning happens automatically as your brain responds to the feedback. Sessions typically last 30–50 minutes.
